Building a Mini IBM ThinkPad 701C Model Kit
Putting together a 65% scale model laptop! This is an Akimitsu "Mosquito" miniature released for the 10th anniversary of the IBM Think Pad in 2002, based on the classic model 701C computer. And yes, it features the awesome Butterfly keyboard that transforms when you open it!

use sandpaper or razor blade sand it down little bit that L shape thing and case too ,it will fix.
think you may be looking at this through rose tinted glasses clint, you bought a model which doesn't function the way in which it was advertised, Id be unhappy if I were you with it
When the keyboard stretched out, it took my breath away.
Next step: insert raspberry pi
I loved my 701C.
I would like to see a kit for the Mini IBM ThinkPad but has a working Pi inside and everything working.
Viewing angles of this thing better than wieving angle of original display
what a shame
Please don't say lube
sweet!
LGR, It's a cute little display collector's item. How Nice. 😉👌 Stay Awesome. 😎👍
in the screen holder place the main splash intro screen of DN3D
@LGR please give us an unedited version like with your other builds!
Nearly 20 years in storage and it turns out to be a piece of tat. Just a little out of warranty now. But that keyboard design is so great on the real thing.
I thought it's real computer
If this was an HG gundam kit you would have to partsform the computer by swapping the "closed" keyboard with an "opened" keyboard
When I first glanced at the thumbnail, I thought you had the IBM PC110 palmtop.
Ok video. Building a, non-functional, computer plastic model is not worthy.
I don’t have the delicacy or dexterity to make model kits or play with brittle plastics. I’m always just a little too forceful 😔
put a raspberry pi in it!
Blah blah, raspberry pi, blah blah. Yawn.
13:06 You're welcome
xD
Watching this video on my w520 and the keyboard layout is still mostly the same with some extras. Best laptop keyboard of all time imo.
Nice IBM Thinkpad Toy Laptop model!
1.: Will it run Crysis? 2.: On paper, yes
It would be really cool if this was a working model, at least at the level of 95 release. What's the point in this toy?
what a piece of crap
Throw some leds in it to light up the led panel
someone could make this into a raspbery pi 4 notebook
We have identical thumbs Thumb brothers
How many thought this would be a working model?
im having my own IBM Thinkpad R32 now. it has 512megabytes of rams and Pentium 4M
when i just see this intro and hear this jazz music i know that is gonna be awesome
has anyone tried to put raspberry pi on this?
Dude put a 5690 turbo metraborem with a Dufy pin . Works like a charm
Could you please post the link to buy this? I'm interested :0
Japan: Yet another cool thing they came up with China: Not an original idea since Sun Tzu's art of war in 5th century BC
Kinda wanna see if you could mod that model to put a LED screen, Raspberry Pi and make the keyboard functional
Is that a butterfly mechanism that actually works cough Apple
Sigh, it’s only a model...
A model kit of a computer? The Japanese are light years ahead of us in nerdology.
I wonder if you could integrate a raspberry pi into that shell and make an actual mini laptop
Only the Japanese would make a model of a laptop
Only in Japan they would make a Model of a laptop computer. LOL
My very curious as to what kind of jazz genre LGR uses in the background. I could totally chill to this music.
Very nice but, can it run a Crysis model kit?
This is what I got after I bought an IBM ThinkPad on AliExpress.
A bit of an off topic question, but have you ever considered reviewing Fallout 3? I know it's far from the oldest game around and I wouldn't consider it retro, but considering you reviewed Oblivion recently, and that being two years older than Fallout, would you ever consider it?
Waste of time, effort and money. Now go and build this laptop from scratch, solder all of the major components onto the motherboard, balance all of the tech inside and install an OS, instead of slapping a keyboard on a pointless craptop and then advertising what a wanker you are with a clickbait titled video... You haven't built a thing here pal. Get a grip.
Wow laptop model kit or laptop trainer kit
Miss your LGR foods.
You call yourself lazy, but making in intro like that isn't lazy
You should talk too Ben Heck and do a cool bulid together!
I can’t believe how often I get you and MichealMJD mixed up. Y’all need to collaborate!

Y’know, if... you want to.
Cars and planes and boats and things (3:38)... "There were plants and birds and rocks and things"
It’s Small that LabTop you actually want is a Big one then that Like I Have is a Big LabTop that I Have mine is the new Acer Chromebook 15.
Looks like there's room for a raspberry zero and a real screen. This could be an even better display item. Maybe with a reprinted actuator/on off switch for the keyboard and an IR port for a real keyboard.
It's cute x3
Send it to Plasmo, he'll sort it out.
And iPad mini inside.
I want that model so I can mod it with a Raspberry Pi zero or compute stick and working keys and screen
Next time: how to install Windows 95 on it.
Put a tiny pc card kit in it and a display
Is there another Room and there to install a raspberry pi0
Love the videos, Phreak! Are we getting a GunZ special someday? ;)
Put raspberry pi zero in there :)
It could jolly well be a tablet holder with Bluetooth keyboard.
So starts LGR descent into Japanese models....especially Gunpla! XD
Please, add Russian subtitles. It is very interesting, but I speak English in small and it is 😔 sad.
If only this case could house a Raspberry Pi with a battery, screen, and a butterfly keyboard running Win 98 by which i mean a smaller IBM butterfly.
Need some grinding.
バタフライキードートだ。懐かしい。けど一度も現物を見たことがない。
BRUH I WANT ONE
I'd like to use it for a pi zero and mod it with a real small screen
Someone needs to model this on Thingiverse as a Raspberry Pi Case.
Oh how I miss the classic Pc game reviews. I could listen to lgr talk about games all day.
Would be cooler if there was something like that but you could put a raspberry pi or something in it so that it's actually functional.
I wish that was sold worldwide and functional...
Rasberry pi zero fit inside ?
This is a lovely thing but the mechanism not working is so disappointing :-(.
Does it fit into a kinder egg? lol
u can read japanese
WOW COMPLETED! IBM
Cool idea, terrible execution.
How much I'd love something like that but with a true keyboard and screen to put a raspberry!
Needs to be functional.
Crazy idea... use a PI type device with a touch screen to make it a real computer :) I'd also say to make the keyboard work but, dam, that would be a project ! Neat item though.
これ中古で売ってたけど一万だったからやめた…
HA! i thought this was a REAL mini laptop @ first .. lol :)
Cant wait till we can put a Ryzen CPU in it and watch it run Crysis!
does windows10 work?
4:44 OMG so cute
Man your enthusiasm for this stuff is infectious. Like I don't even really care about this laptop but the pure joy you get from it is just amazing. Thank you for sharing your interests.
This case with a raspberry pi would be awesome
ThinkPads are my favorite line of computers. I have a T430 with updated ram and a few SSDs in it and that already makes it a perfectly capable production machine in 2020. Once I get my i7 to throw in there and a desperately needed display upgrade I may not update again for a decade. Hell, if I can manage to get a GPU setup through the PCI slot then I may never upgrade. They really don’t make em like that anymore. What other laptop from 2012 could you still be using today to do real production work and gaming? Not serious gaming mind you, but it can run Skyrim just fine. Once I have the GPU setup, I will be able to run anything.
put a PI in it, a small screen xD
pull out those springs , itll give em a bit of extra force. till its enough...
I've haven't watched any lgr videos in a while but that intro is really nice
That would be sweet to throw an Arduino into with a working screen 😁
